PHP Money Manager – Personal Finance Tracker
PHP Money Manager is a personal finance management application designed to simplify income tracking, expense management, and budgeting. Built with PHP and MySQL, it provides tools for recording financial transactions, organizing categories, managing budgets and financial goals, and visualizing financial activity through interactive charts. The application also supports CSV exports and secure user authentication, helping users maintain a clearer overview of their finances.

The challenge
Managing personal finances without a centralized system can make it difficult to track spending, maintain budgets, monitor savings goals, and understand financial habits. Manual records can become disorganized, while limited reporting makes it harder to identify spending patterns. The goal was to develop a straightforward finance management application that consolidates transactions, budgets, goals, and reports in one place.
What we did
We developed a PHP and MySQL application for managing personal financial activity. The system includes income and expense tracking, category management, budget monitoring, financial goal management, and interactive financial reports powered by Chart.js. We implemented CSV export functionality to make financial records easier to review outside the application. Security measures include PDO prepared statements, password hashing, and session-based authentication. The project can be run locally using XAMPP with Apache and MySQL.
The results
The completed application brings everyday financial tracking into one structured interface. Users can record transactions, organize spending, monitor budgets and goals, and review financial activity through visual reports. CSV export and security-conscious database access further support practical financial record management.
